New Delhi. Batsmen Snehal Kauthankar and Kashyap Bakle made a record of scoring triple centuries together in a Ranji Trophy match. Both made an unbeaten partnership of 606 runs for the third wicket. Despite this, both of them missed out on breaking the record of the biggest partnership in first class cricket. On the basis of excellent innings by Kauthankar and Kashyap, Goa defeated Arunachal Pradesh by an innings and 551 runs in the plate group match. Kauthankar scored 314 runs in 215 balls while Bakle scored 300 runs in 269 balls. Due to which Goa declared the innings at 727 runs for 2 wickets in just 92 overs and took a lead of 643 runs on the basis of first innings.

Goa then registered a big win by bowling out Arunachal Pradesh for 92 runs in 22.3 overs. The visiting team was reduced to 84 runs in the first innings. Snehal Kauthankar and Kashyap Bakle broke many records during their sensational partnership. Their unbeaten partnership surpassed the 594-run partnership for the third wicket between Maharashtra pair SM Gugalle and AR Bawne against Delhi at the Wankhede Stadium in 2016. This is only the second case of two batsmen scoring triple centuries in the same innings in a Ranji Trophy match. Tamil Nadu’s WV Raman and Arjun Kripal Singh scored 313 and 302 runs respectively against Goa in 1989.

Sangakkara-Jaywardhan’s great record of partnership of 624 runs
This 606-run partnership was just behind the 624-run partnership made between Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene in the Test against South Africa in 2006. Jayardhane and Sangakkara hold the record for the biggest partnership in first class cricket. Goa’s first innings score of 727 runs is the second highest score in the plate division. Earlier in 2018, Meghalaya had scored 826 runs for seven wickets against Sikkim. This is the ninth highest score in Ranji Trophy.

Kauthankar hit 43 fours and 4 sixes
Kauthankar hit 43 fours and four sixes during his innings and to reach this feat he played only 205 balls. Thanks to his stormy innings, Kauthankar is now third in the all-time list of players who have scored the fastest triple century in the first class, after Hyderabad’s Tanmay Agarwal and South Africa’s Marco Marais. During his innings, the 29-year-old player also recorded the fourth fastest double century in the history of Ranji Trophy, which he achieved by scoring 200 runs in just 146 balls. Bakle’s innings had 39 fours and two sixes.
