After the victory of Republican Party candidate Donald Trump in the US presidential elections, the discussion about imposing heavy tariffs on China has intensified. Trump had said several times during his election campaign that he would impose 60 percent tariff on China. Can Donald Trump impose tariffs on India too? Pakistani expert Qamar Cheema says that Donald Trump will not spare India also in the matter of tariffs.

Qamar Cheema Foreign Minister S. We were talking about Jaishankar’s statement in which he had said that many countries are scared of Trump’s victory, but India is not. On this, Qamar Cheema says that India’s economy is good, it has defense deals with America. India-US Defense Corporation Framework was formed in 2015-16, in which India is the major defense partner.

Regarding tariffs, Qamar Cheema said, ‘According to my reading about America, Donald Trump will not leave India for the sake of tariffs. They will get money withdrawn from India. He is a businessman and has no problem in giving money to India. It is because of that that whatever the Democratic government does, they keep it behind and do not give anything. Trump will simply say, give money and get this product. He said that in the last few years, American companies have invested 60 billion dollars in India and India has invested 40 billion dollars in America. India wants to work on the same lines on which America wants to work.

Regarding Jaishankar’s statement, he said that why India is not worried about Donald Trump’s victory, but other countries are, this is the question. There is defense collaboration between US and India. They operate major work streams of the Quad and if we just look at their defense trade, we will know how much America needs India. Because of this India has this confidence. Its economy is good. He buys arms from America so he is not afraid of America.

Pak expert Qamar Cheema further said, ‘The thing on which India is criticized in western countries is strategic economy. The whole world says that the strategic economy that India talks about is not understood. India also has relations with Russia and now western countries have started openly raising this issue. You also have relations with Russia, you trade with China worth 125 billion dollars and also trade with America worth 200 billion dollars.
