The Inter-State Council, which works for Centre-State and inter-State coordination and cooperation, has been reconstituted. The chairman of the council is Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Ministers of all states and nine Union Ministers have been made its members. Also, 13 Union Ministers have been made permanent invitees.
According to the notification issued from the Home Ministry, Union ministers belonging to NDA allies Janata Dal (United), Janata Dal (Secular), Telugu Desam Party and Lok Janshakti Party are part of the reconstituted council. The notification states that PM Modi will be its chairman. The Chief Ministers of all the States and Union Territories having Legislative Assembly and the Administrators of the Union Territories not having Legislative Assembly will be members of the High Powered Committee.
Objective: To promote cooperative federalism
The objective of the Council is to work for Centre-State and inter-State coordination and cooperation besides creating a strong institutional framework to promote and support cooperative federalism in the country.

The council members include Union ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Jagat Prakash Nadda, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Nirmala Sitharaman, Manohar Lal Khattar, Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Virendra Kumar and Ram Mohan Naidu.

The permanent invitees to the council include Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, S Jaishankar, HD Kumaraswamy, Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Jitan Ram Manjhi, Jual Oraon, Ashwini Vaishnav, Bhupendra Yadav, Kiren Rijiju, G Kishan Reddy, Chirag Paswan and CR Patil.
