Apple Gives jolt to China, Exports USD 6 Billion of iPhones From India

American devices maker Apple’s exports of iPhones from the country have increased by almost one-third in the first half of the current financial year. This indicates that the company’s plans to reduce its dependence on China and expand manufacturing in India will move forward. Apple’s exports of ‘Made in India’ iPhones increased by almost one-third to nearly $6 billion (about Rs 50,451 crore) in the first half compared to the same period of the previous financial year.

Bloomberg’s Report Quoting sources having information about the company, it has been said that in the current financial year, Apple’s export of iPhones from the country may exceed 10 billion dollars. The company has made preparations to rapidly increase manufacturing through its contract manufacturers in the country. To reduce dependence on China Apple India will have an important contribution in the plan. The company’s three contract manufacturers assemble iPhones at their factories in South India. Apart from Taiwan’s Foxconn Technology and Pegatron, these include Tata Electronics.

Foxconn’s factory is near Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Its share in iPhone exports from the country is almost half. Tata Electronics, the electronics manufacturing unit of Tata Group involved in business ranging from automobiles to software, has exported iPhones worth about $ 1.7 billion in the first half. Tata Electronics factory is in Karnataka. Last year, Tata Group had purchased this factory from Wistron.

Apple also plans to increase its retail stores in the country. The company’s stores opened last year in Select Citywalk in Saket, Delhi and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai have received good response. Apple is preparing to open new stores in Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune. According to a media report, Apple has listed many jobs on its website in the country. These include full-time and part-time jobs. The company is expected to hire approximately 400 employees. The revenue of Apple’s stores in the country in the first year of sales was approximately Rs 800 crore. In this, the share of Saket stores in Delhi is 60 percent.
