Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah announces compensation for houses collapsed due to rain

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced a compensation of Rs 1.2 lakh for houses that collapsed due to rain. During this, he promised to build new houses for those victims whose houses completely collapsed in the rain. Apart from this, the CM also assured to give Rs 50 thousand for partially collapsed houses.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told a press conference on Saturday that the state has received 181 mm of rainfall this year, which is much more than expected. Due to heavy rains, 25 people have lost their lives and 85 houses have completely collapsed. Additionally, a total of 2070 houses have been damaged. Siddaramaiah said, ‘We recorded 181 mm rainfall this monsoon, whereas it should have been 114 mm. This year has seen the third highest rainfall in the last century. In October 2024 alone, we experienced heavy rainfall, amounting to 58 mm. This is much above normal.

World Bank will give an aid package of Rs 2000 crore

The Chief Minister informed that the World Bank has agreed to provide an assistance package of Rs 2000 crore for flood-related works, which will be finalized within 2-3 months. We hope to receive this assistance soon. He told that this proposal will be approved in the next cabinet meeting. However, tender instructions have already been issued.

Rs 670 crore allocated for road construction

During this he announced that Rs 670 crore has been allocated for road construction. CM said that till now 14000 potholes have been filled and survey will be conducted to ensure solution of all the potholes. Additionally, Rs 275 crore has been sanctioned for NDMF schemes. Approval of Rs 50 crore has also been given for the construction of tube canal. He informed that instructions have been given to call tenders.

Alert of more rain in November-December

According to IMD, Karnataka is expected to receive more rain in November and December. CM Siddaramaiah assured that security measures have been implemented to ensure public safety. He said, ‘IMD has predicted more rain in November and December, so strict instructions have been given to the officials to take preventive measures. All our reservoirs are almost full, with a capacity of 895.62 TMC currently holding 881.86 TMC of water, whereas last year it was 505 TMC. We are in a comfortable position.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah also directed agriculture and related departments to effectively manage resources, including drinking water supply. Furthermore, he has directed officials to immediately implement safety measures to further reassure people affected by the rain.
