Many times it happens that even a person declared dead gets up from the funeral pyre. This type of incident is seen not only in small countries but also in hospitals of big cities of developed countries. In such a situation, one wonders how the person declared dead came alive. Was it negligence on the part of the doctors or some kind of miracle? A similar case came to light in Kentucky, America, when preparations were going on for organ donation of a person who had been declared dead. But suddenly he started moving. During investigation he was found alive. This rare case has become a subject of investigation.
The matter reached the committee of the US Parliament
This horrific case has been mentioned by whistleblower Licoleta Martin in the hearing of the Energy and Commerce Committee of the House of Representatives of the US Congress. In which the country’s organ procurement and transplant system was being discussed. America’s public broadcasting organization National Public Radio reported that in this case the donor showed signs of survival when his heart was being examined for fitness for transplant. Martin said the donor had woken up during the cardiac catheterization procedure and was shaking on the table.
what happened to the patient
This incident happened to 36-year-old Anthony Thomas TJ Hoover II, who was rushed to Baptist Health Hospital in Richement, Kentucky due to a drug overdose, where he was declared brain dead due to cardiac arrest and Life support was removed from him. After this, preparations were started to donate his organs as per his wish.

after being declared dead
When TJ was declared dead, his sister Donna Rohrer and other relatives were at his side. Rorer tells that at that time his eyes were open and it seemed as if he was looking at the other side of the operation theatre. The staff said that this is a normal reflex after death. But when the staff was examining TJ in preparation for organ donation, he started shaking, which shocked the staff. In such a situation, the process of his organ donation was stopped. Luckily TJ survived and is now in the care of his sister with some problems, including verbal and memory problems.
Organ donation deadline problem
The matter is under investigation under the Federal Health Resources and Services Administration. The hospital cited patient safety as its top priority, but Kentucky Organ Donate Affiliate (CODA), which employs Martin, says the case was misrepresented. If the patient’s condition does not improve and he does not suffer cardiac arrest within the stipulated time of donation, then the patient’s family members are told that the organ donation process cannot take place. This is what happened in this case.

two way challenge
The problem is that the patient’s chances of regaining consciousness depend on many factors. Setting such stringent standards means that organ donation reduces the chances of other patients, while the donor patient has little chance of recovery. But Martin says that it becomes very frightening that your organs are being harvested for donation but you are alive.
