JK Fake Gun License Case: The much talked about fake gun license issue of Jammu and Kashmir is once again gaining momentum. During the hearing of a PIL filed in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court regarding this, CBI filed a status report in the court. CBI has sought permission from the court to prosecute the accused IAS officers in this case.
CBI told the High Court that in the year 2021, we had demanded from the government to initiate investigation case against IAS officers, which it has not received yet.
What is the fake gun license case?
Actually, this matter is of the year 2014-15. When the state’s Vigilance Organization had registered two separate cases in Jammu and Kashmir to investigate the accused of fake gun license. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir government had also received a report from ATS Rajasthan, in which it was said that during the investigation of gun licenses issued from Jammu and Kashmir, it was found that the weapons issued on these gun licenses are being used by terrorists.
After this, the Jammu and Kashmir government had handed over the responsibility of investigating the gun licenses issued from 2012 to 2016 to the CBI. In the year 2018, CBI registered two separate FIRs in this regard in Jammu and Kashmir and started investigation.
Its investigation was completed in the year 2020. In this case, the Jammu and Kashmir government had given permission to prosecute the accused Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Services officers, who were posted as DMs in different districts from 2012 to 2016. 13 challans were presented against JK IAS officers in different courts, but since the year 2020, CBI has continuously sought permission for prosecution against 10 accused IAS officers, which the government is not giving.
274000 guns issued during 2012-16
Petitioner’s lawyer Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed, while talking to ABP News, said that from 2012 to 2016, 2 lakh 74 thousand gun licenses were issued fraudulently from Jammu and Kashmir. Citing the CBI charge sheet, he said that most of these gun licenses were issued fraudulently.
That’s why permission for the case was not granted
These fraudulently issued gun licenses were issued in the name of people or army personnel who neither lived in Jammu and Kashmir nor were posted in Jammu and Kashmir. On not getting permission to prosecute IAS officers from the year 2020 till now, the petitioner’s lawyer alleged that all this is not being done due to bureaucratic pressure.
