New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has finally taken a decision on the ‘Impact Player’ rule, which has been a topic of discussion for the last one year. BCCI has decided to abolish the ‘Impact Player’ rule from the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. The rule of ‘Impact Player’ was implemented in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy a few years ago. After this it was implemented in IPL i.e. Indian Premier League.

BCCI itself has informed about this decision. The board has told the state associations that it has been decided to do away with the provision of ‘Impact Player’ for the current season. BCCI’s decision to eliminate ‘impact players’ from the top domestic T20 tournament has come when it has decided to retain this rule in IPL till 2027.

Rohit Sharma had criticized
Due to this rule, many scores of more than 250 runs were made in the last season of IPL. Many current and former players including Indian captain Rohit Sharma had criticized this rule. Rohit Sharma had said in a podcast that this reduces the role of all-rounders, which affects the team’s preparation in international matches.

Saurashtra coach said good change
Saurashtra head coach Neeraj Odedra welcomed BCCI’s decision. He said, ‘This is a good change. It is not part of the major ICC tournaments. In such a situation, it will be good for those cricketers who want to play for India after the domestic season. (Input PTI)
