Delhi Latest News: A Delhi court on Thursday directed Tihar Jail authorities to allow Indian Mujahideen co-founder Yasin Bhatkal to talk to his ailing mother through video conference. Additional Sessions Judge Dr Hardeep Kaur directed the accused to communicate with his mother “only in Hindi language”.
Justice Dr. Hardeep Kaur said that the concerned jail superintendent also has the freedom to record the dialogue, if any, for security reasons. “Considering the totality of the facts and circumstances and in the light of the judgment of the Delhi High Court, the concerned Jail Superintendent is directed to permit the accused to interact with his mother through video conferencing only once,” the judge said. Yasin had asked for permission to talk
Justice Dr. Hardeep Kaur passed this order on an application filed by the lawyer of the accused, in which it was claimed that Bhatkal’s mother had undergone heart surgery this month and her condition was critical. Advocate MS Khan, advocate Kausar Khan and Prashant Prakash, appearing for the accused, also argued that Bhatkal has not spoken to his family for the last 13 years.
The accused had earlier sought parole in custody to meet his mother. He said he is not pushing for parole and instead prays that he be granted digital access to his mother once a month “on humanitarian grounds”.
Delhi Police had opposed the petition
Delhi Police opposed the application presented by Yasin Bhatkal’s lawyer in the court. Let us tell you that Yasin Bhatkal is accused in several terrorism cases, including a case related to conspiring to wage war against India in 2012 and a case related to the serial bomb blasts in Delhi in September 2008, in which 26 people lost their lives. It was destroyed and 135 people were injured.
