Canada’s accusation against China
At the same time, Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair accused China of carrying out unsafe practices. He said that on October 29, a Chinese jet flew over a Canadian helicopter, causing a lot of turbulence. Later in the day, another jet fired flares directly in front of the helicopter, forcing it to change direction to avoid it.
He told reporters that such exercises put the safety of soldiers at unnecessary risk. He said that Ottawa has considered the recent actions of Chinese jets as very unsafe.
Canadian helicopters and the HMCS Ottawa warship were in the South China Sea as part of a US and allied freedom of navigation crossing to strengthen the body’s status as an international waterway.
