7.2 magnitude earthquake strikes Peru, tsunami threat continues

Earthquake: A 7.2 magnitude earthquake has struck Peru, raising the risk of a tsunami. The USGS raised the magnitude rating shortly after the quake struck 8.8 kilometers (5.5 miles) from the Atikipa district. A magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck off the coast of central Peru on Friday, raising the possibility of tsunami waves in some coastal areas, the US Geological Survey said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center had earlier said that there was no danger. However, after the earthquake, it warned that waves up to three meters high could rise on some beaches.

According to the report of the United States Geological Survey, this earthquake occurred on Friday at exactly 11:06 am. Earlier, an earthquake of 5.9 magnitude had occurred in Peru on June 16. In fact, the South American country Peru was once again shaken by strong tremors of earthquake on Friday. Its intensity was measured at 7.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake is said to be 8 kilometers away from Atikipa district of Peru. At present, the government has not given official information about the loss of life and property in Peru after this dangerous earthquake. But an alert has been issued regarding tsunami.

There was an earthquake in Peru on June 16 as well
According to the local media report of Peru, tremendous tremors of 7.2 magnitude were felt in Peru. After which people came out of their homes. Vehicles were stopped on the roads due to fear. However, there was no loss of life or property in the earthquake on June 16.
