170 killed due to heavy rains and floods in Nepal; 30 lakh people affected in Bihar

Nepal’s heavy rains are wreaking havoc in India too. While 170 people have died in Nepal due to floods, its impact is also visible in Bihar after the rivers swelled. The gates of the barrages have had to be opened, due to which many rivers including Ganga, Kosi, Gandak are in spate. There is havoc of flood in 26 districts.

Nepal: Heavy rains and floods, 170 people died

Due to heavy rains, floods and landslides in Nepal, 170 people died in two days, while 55 are missing. The dead included 19 people traveling in a bus and six football players present in the training camp. Nepal government has given instructions for holiday in schools for three days. The Meteorological Department has predicted that the rain will continue till Tuesday.

According to the Armed Police Force, due to heavy rains, large parts of eastern and central Nepal are submerged since Friday. Many highways and roads are blocked. At least 322 houses and 16 bridges have been damaged. Helicopters have also been deployed for relief and rescue operations. 3,661 people have been rescued. 101 people were also injured during the relief work.

Maximum 48 people have died in Kathmandu Valley, while 45 have been injured. Entry and exit from Kathmandu has been blocked due to landslide in Jhyaple river. People say that they have not seen such a devastating flood in the Kathmandu Valley in the last 40-45 years. The Disaster Risk Reduction Management Authority has issued a warning for 56 out of 77 districts. There is a high risk of disaster due to rain in these districts.

Such flood did not occur in Kathmandu

“I have never seen such floods in Kathmandu before,” said Arun Bhakta Shrestha, a climate and environment expert at the International Center for Integrated Mountain Development. The Meteorological Department report said that Bagmati, the main river of Kathmandu, is flowing seven feet above the danger mark after torrential rains.

6 football players killed in landslide

At least 19 people died when a bus was hit by a landslide in Dhading district near Kathmandu on Saturday. Five people were killed when a house collapsed in a landslide in Bhaktapur city. 6 football players lost their lives in Makwanpur.
